The Last Step of a Launch Is No Longer Theory

Canoliq is the first third-party chain to graduate on the Canopy launchpad. It finished on Tuesday.

The milestone is not the interesting part. The interesting part is that the last step of a Canopy launch has now been walked end to end by a team that does not work here, which changes what that step is worth to everyone else. Canoliq is a liquid staking protocol built by Nodefleet.

Why the last step is the one that should worry you

Every launch platform documents what happens at the end. Far fewer have had it happen. The final transition, from a project living inside somebody else's product to a network that stands on its own, has the most moving parts and the least evidence behind it, and usually you find out whether it works when it is your turn.

That is a bad place to be standing. You have built the thing and brought people to it, and the one part you could not test in advance is the part that decides whether you end up owning a network or renting a page.

What graduation actually does

On Canopy that step is called graduation, and it is a defined event rather than a judgment anyone makes. A project launches through Canopy Terminal and runs inside it for a while. When the launch reaches the threshold set for it, the launch closes and the project crosses over.

What sits on the other side is concrete. The onchain app is a live network producing its own blocks. The project picks up its own block explorer and wallet support. Its page on the launchpad drops the launch counters and shows a graduated network instead. And the team takes over running it.

Why someone else going first is worth something to you

The path is no longer a specification with our own testing behind it. A team outside Canopy has taken a project from launch to an operating network on mainnet, start to finish, and once it began the crossing took about twelve minutes.

So if you launch here, you are not the one finding out whether the exit works. That question is answered, and it was answered by a team with their own product and their own reasons, which is the only way it could have been answered properly.

What becomes of any individual application after it graduates is up to the people building it. What the mechanism does is now a matter of record.
